Smells like home... the North Charleston paper mill has officially released its plans to close on August 31st. The paper mill has been a landmark in Charleston when locals drive over the Don N. Holt bridge and smell the aroma of the factory.

As of today, they’ve been around for over 85 years, as of closing, they will have been around for over 86 years. Some might say the mill is one of the oldest Charlestonians still around in the area.

The mill is currently owned by the WestRock company and they cited trouble with finances as the main reason behind the closure. This news was announced through a press release on Tuesday, May 2.

This closure is expected to affect around 500 employees and severance packages will be offered. We will keep y’all posted as this story develops.
